Die cutting is the mechanical cutting of rubber in nearly any type of shape or size. Die cuts are made by sharp steel rules in the desired shape.
Some of the more common uses of die cut gaskets are environmental seals, dust seals, vibration dampers and EMI Shielding. When designing a gasket, remember to consider environment, regulatory and electrical requirements. Many of our products can be supplied with an adhesive backing, which can reduce or eliminate the need to use difficult to control liquid adhesive on the assembly line.
Things to consider when specifying a die cut part
Consider a multi-cavity steel rule die instead of a single cavity. Multiple cavity dies increase the number of gaskets made with each hit, which may reduce the amount of labor needed to manufacture production quantities.
In some cases, accordion style dies should be considered. Accordian style dies make efficient use of the gasket material.
Whether our production team is manufacturing a simple washer or intricately detailed gaskets, every phase of the production process follows a time-tested procedure, designed to ensure product conformity and quality. We rely on our automated vision system to help ensure product quality and conformity.
The advanced metrology software allows our Quality Control Department to import CAD drawings and use the drawings as the basis for inspecting production parts. The automated system guarantees a highly reliable, non-bias, quality inspection.
The Efficiency of Kiss Cutting
Specialized equipment and processes allow us to control the depth; a steel rule die penetrates a gasket material by using a "Kiss Cut" process. Our high-speed PrecoŠ Kiss Cutting press cuts material down to, but not through an easy release liner for easy removal of the gasket.
Engineers specify easy to use kiss cut products when assembly line efficiency is critical. Since kiss cut gaskets can dramatically reduce the time it takes assembly personnel to peel gaskets off the paper release liner, significant labor savings can be realized.
